"The temptations of St. Anthony" (by Salvador Dali)
This extraordinary masterpiece of art, is, as the title shows, a representation of the temptations of St. Anthony.. in a way it's a religion based piece..
The way i view it, it means heaven, and the everlasting attempts to reach it! A white horse is the leader of this march, and he's followed by elephants, surreal ones.. the fact that all the animals are on the same level with the clouds, means they reach high! most probably are reaching for immortality and peace in heaven..
But at the same time, all their feet touch the ground, which can mean they are realists.. down to earth.. accept their fate and are patient.. patient enough to wait around life #1 until they reach a clear conscious for ever and ever...But that's just the way I see it.. A piece highly rich in symbolism.. and it's surrealism adds a touch of creativity along with efficiency in the realism of it! What do these things on all the animals backs mean? share your thoughts too!! what do you think it means? :)
